Favorite Episodes of Supernatural: “Home” [1.09]

“Home” is a beautifully constructed episode, in which Dean and Sam must finally return to Lawrence, Kansas - the place that they thought they had left behind forever - and confront the memories that continue to haunt them. In regards to the overarching story line, we are finally given a huge chunk of plot to file away and analyze as the season progresses.

Both brothers face heartbreak - Dean, when he cannot reach his father; and Sam when he must face his mother - but these scenes only add to the emotional depth of the characters and solidify the brothers’ co-dependency. 

“This obsession to save Dean? The way you two keep sacrificing yourselves for each other? Nothing good comes out of it. Just blood and pain. Dean’s your weakness. The bad guys know it too. It’s going to be the death of you, Sam. Sometimes you just gotta let people go.”
“He’s my brother.”
“Yep, and like it or not, this is what life’s going to be like without him.”
“Please, just… please.”
